Kaye Pemberton trained and worked as a secondary art teacher in rural South Australia. Discovering her passion for clay, she went on to train as a production potter at the JamFactory Craft and Design Centre in Adelaide, South Australia in 1984.

Since moving to Canberra in 1999, Pemberton completed a Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts at the Australian National University School of Art.

Pemberton has taught art and ceramics for thirty years, recently conducting workshops in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Her work has won various awards and been acquired throughout Australia. During 2007, she was the NSW Ministry for the Arts funded resident, in the Hill End Artist in Residence Program. Her work was selected to represent contemporary Australian craft at 'Collect' The international art fair for contemporary objects at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London in January 2008.

In late 2008 Pemberton mentored Alicia Kane under the Australia Council 2008 Emerging Artists Initiatives Program. The mentorship confirmed that Pemberton’s experience and skills are both tangible and very valuable, and are the result of a long career as a potter. It also affirmed Pemberton’s passion for teaching and guiding students.

Pemberton's studio is now located in her back yard in suburban Canberra and her work focuses on the ceremonies of daily living and the early Australian 'making do' aesthetic driven by economy.
