As a young adult Elizabeth Kelly spent four years travelling extensively through Europe and Asia before commencing a two-year full time factory traineeship in glass blowing in 1985 at the JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design Centre in Adelaide. Post training, she undertook studies at the Adelaide Centre for the ARTS, transferring to the Australian National University School of Art to complete a degree in Visual Art.

After her undergraduate degree, Kelly taught at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and was a research assistant in coloured glass before undertaking a Master’ s degree in Visual Art with an Australian Post Graduate Award for research into chemistry of coloured glass, and with direct application in the field of sculpture in 1995.

In 1997 Kelly commenced a three-year contract as Head of Glass Workshop at the JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design Centre in Adelaide. During this period she travelled to Europe for an exhibition in Venice and to demonstrate as a master glassblower in Leerdam, the Netherlands.

In 2000 Kelly travelled extensively through North America, Canada and Japan for further professional development. This included working in several private studios for short stints and also completing a fellowship at the Wheaton Village Creative Glass Centre of America, New Jersey.

In 2003 Kelly established Studio Tangerine in Canberra, a purpose built self-funded glass design and sculpture studio where she continues to work. In 2008 Kelly was invited as an Artist in Residence at the Seto City International Ceramic and Glass Centre in Japan.
